The mission of Arabic Testing Office at School of Foreign Languages in Social Sciences University of Ankara is to support the instruction of Arabic language at school by providing a professional testing environment that enables test takers to perform at their maximum ability.

We meet this mission by;
• Providing assessment testing for incoming students, interpreting test results and informing the school administration,
• Providing a facility conducive to a quality testing environment which will be, comfortable, quiet, clean, aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly,
• Recruiting and retaining qualified professionals and dedicated support staff,
• Collaborating with administrators, testing partners, and other offices at school to keep abreast of the recent changes in school policies and curriculum,
• Scheduling, administering and monitoring in-class tests according to rules, instructions and guidelines established by the office,
• Following strict test security procedures and maintaining the confidentiality of all testing materials and students’ exam scores,
• Archiving testing data needed by students, other offices and school administration,
• Providing training and other information necessary to familiarize and assist students, language instructors and administrators with the exam dates, weighting of the each
assessment and evaluation criteria.

Arabic Placement Test (APT)
The students’ approximate level of language knowledge is assessed with the Arabic Placement Test. The students are placed on Arabic classes based on their levels and
scores from the APT.

The content of the test is as follows;
• Listening comprehension
• Grammar
• Vocabulary
• Reading comprehension

The exam includes 80 multiple-choice items, which needs to be answered in 50 minutes.
The date and place of the APT are announced on the university website. The students who could score level B1 and above take the Arabic Proficiency Exam (APE). The students who do not take the APT are placed on the class for students with the lowest level of proficiency.

ASBU Arabic Proficiency Exam - APE
The Arabic Proficiency Exam assesses the students’ language knowledge and skills that they will need during their BA programs.
The APE consists of two parts. In the first part, students’ reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and writing skills are assessed. In the second part, students’ speaking skills are assessed.
