Offered by the SFL, SSUA, the Arabic Preparatory Program is a one-year compulsory language instruction program designed for the prospective students of the Faculty of Religious Sciences, one of the basic faculties of our university.

The SSUA SFL Arabic Preparatory Programme aims to prepare students for language proficiency for higher education in line with the objectives of the university in general and the faculty in particular. Efforts of ASBU to understand, to explain, and to build with a focus on social sciences, along with the same efforts by the Faculty of Religious Sciences focusing on religious sciences, are more than justified by the historical richness – on the diachronic level – and the increasingly common use – on the synchronic level – of the Arabic language.

The Programme constitutes the basis of Arabic language teaching and learning that will continue throughout the faculty education. It seeks to expose students to language instruction of 850 to 900 hours in a year in order to introduce them to all aspects of the Arabic language and to make the language accessible as a whole with a focus on the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 4 to 6 hours of the weekly schedule will be dedicated to the theoretical basics of the language, and 22 to 24 hours to the practical aspects of the theory. The Program starts with a placement and proficiency test at the beginning of the academic year, offers instruction with active and interactional methods through a level-based structure, and helps students set off on a long journey evaluating them by what they add to what they receive. With its gradual methodology, it prepares students for the intensive work required by higher education with a step-by-step learning experience.

Conscious of its mission of building a whole on solid ground, the Arabic Preparatory Program is aware that a productive and original/liberating learning experience is only possible through a lifelong love of work, and hopes to make a small contribution to this comprehensive human action.
