Spanish is a language that belongs to the Indo-European language family. It is becoming more and more widely used all around the world and is spoken by approximately 500 million people in the world. It is by far the second spoken non-English language in The United States, and the third most widely spoken language in the world following English and Chinese.

A close look at the geographical regions where Spanish is spoken shows that Spanish has acquired an official language status in 21 different countries: Spain, Cuba, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rica, Dominica Republic, El Salvador, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Equatorial Guinea.
